Main Street Moves

Main Street Moves is the name for the temporary pedestrianization of Main Street in response to the 2020 Covid pandemic. While the program has been extended until January 7, 2022, we advocate for its permanent implementation. Similar changes have been made around the world, leading to higher economic output, improved air quality, and greater quality of life for citizens. By reclaiming the streets and parking spaces previously taken up by cars, pedestrians are able to better enjoy Main Steet’s offerings at their own leisure, with greater safety and more room to stretch out. The increased foot traffic leads to more sales for local business and, as a result, more exciting economic and cultural opportunities like pop-up markets and holiday events. Making Main Street Moves permanent is the first step toward a reinvigorated downtown.
